Mummy's 3rd visit to our Family Doctor for month of April10

For the whole month of April, mummy visited the family doctor almost like every week..
1st week, was Baby having infection on his ear....
2nd week, was Baby caught the viral infection from mummy & jiejie....
3rd week, was Baobei got the urinary tract infection....
For next week, it will be the arranged appointment for Baby's 1st Jab...

2 nights ago while having dinner, baobei keep telling us she need to go pee, it was like 3visits within 30mins.. she also complained there is some pain when urinating.. After checked, there is some redness too... Popo asked if want to bring her to doc, as daddy is outstationed, and it was already 8plus, mummy thought to observe her for another day...

So baobei still proceed to go school the next morning and then mummy told the teachers to monitor her closely and call up if there is anything... happen to be with Aunty Aileen and mentioned to her about all the complaints which baobei has made, and she said it shld be UTI.. she also suggested to give cranberry juice before it get worsen.. So mummy quickly bought a bottle and pass it to the school for her to drink in school..

Last night, baobei still complain she having pain when peeing.. And worst she woke up 2x in the middle of the night to pee... this is the first time, she wakes up in late night to go toilet ever since she is fully toilet trained. The 2nd time when she wakes mummy up, it was too late for mummy to react and she just lose control and wet herself over the floor. it was 5am loh and so happen Baby is up for milk feeding..

Mummy 1st woke popo to help to handle baby.. and then she carried baobei to the toilet, clean her and change her to clean clothes.. Then use the mop to clean the floor, rinse the clothes.. it was too smelly loh... Sigh.. why all the bad things always happen when daddy is outstationed????

Took baobei to Dr Ivan, and based on all the symptoms described, he safely concluded it is UTI and prescribed her with anti-biotics..

Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

What is a UTI? Could my baby have one?
A UTI is an abbreviation for a urinary tract infection. Normally, urine drains easily from the kidneys and then it passes down tubes called ureters into the bladder, where it waits to be cleared through the urethra and into the baby's nappy. But bacteria can sneak into the urethra from the skin around the bottom and the genitals, or from the blood moving through the kidneys, causing inflammation at any point along the tract.

It is a common cause of infection or feverish illness in young children.

What symptoms could indicate a UTI?
It can be really difficult to tell if a baby has a UTI. If your baby is generally unwell with any of the following it could be caused by a UTI:
• fever
• vomiting

• tiredness

• irritability

• not feeding well

• not gaining weight properly

• jaundice

If your baby has any of the following symptoms then it is quite likely they have a UTI:
• pain when passing urine
• needing to pass urine frequently

• wetting

• tummy pain

• pain in the side

• unpleasant smelling urine

• blood in the urine (NICE 54 2007)

Should I call a doctor? What tests will he need to do?
It's important to contact your doctor if you suspect a UTI. If an infection is left untreated for a long time, it could move to the kidneys and possibly cause permanent damage. Babies under two years are more likely to suffer serious damage.

Fever in a young baby is unusual and is a sign that your baby could be very poorly. You should always contact a doctor as soon as possible if your baby is:

• under three months and has a fever of 38 degrees C or more

• under six months and has a fever of 39 degrees C or more (NICE 47 2007)

If your child has signs of a UTI, the doctor may need to collect a sterile urine sample to find out what bacteria is causing it. Your doctor may give you an absorbent pad to put in your baby’s nappy. The urine is then sucked out of the pad with a syringe. This can be done by you at home or at your GP’s surgery. Occasionally this will need to be done in hospital if it is really tricky. Older babies and children can wee directly into a sterile specimen pot (NICE 54 2007).

Sometimes a doctor will also refer a young child with a UTI for other tests, such as a renal ultrasound, to check the functioning of the kidneys and the bladder and to rule out other problems. This will probably happen if your baby is under six months old or has had several UTI’s (NICE 54 2007).

What's the treatment for a UTI?
Usually your baby will be prescribed three days of oral antibiotics to take at home. Most UTIs clear up one to two days after treatment starts. It is very important that your baby finishes the course of antibiotics even if he seems better.

If the infection is in the kidney (upper urinary tract infection) then your baby will need antibiotics for 7-10 days. If he is very young or very poorly he may need to be in hospital.
If your baby is under three months old or very poorly he will need to be in hospital and will probably be given antibiotics through a drip in his arm (NICE 54 2007).

Is there anything I can do to prevent infections?
Some children seem prone to these infections. But there are a few things you can do. Although most doctors do not believe that UTIs are caused by poor hygiene, it won't do any harm to make sure you always wipe from front to back when changing your baby's nappy. Most UTIs in babies originate in the urethra, from bacteria around the bottom. And make sure your baby gets plenty of fluids to help flush unwanted bacteria out of her system.

How to clear Baby's cradle cap...

As much as i can recall, Baobei never has cradle cap in her infant stage and therefore mummy has never done anything to her scalp... Popo says it could be mummy has drank more coconut water during the last trimester when carrying her...

For Baby, mummy only get to drink the 1st coconut in her wk 35 and not in time to drink the next one the following week... Hahaha.. Baby can't wait to come out to this world lar.... Probably that's really one of the reason why Jiejie has no flaky scalp and Didi has it...

Anyway, mummy gives baby a hair spa... First, to drop some baby oil onto his scalp... massage to his scalp wait for a while.. then use a baby comb to comb thru his hair/massageg his scalp.. The flaky things will stick onto the comb.. Lastly, mummy give him a good shampoo... Hahaha.. .He really enjoys the whole process, no fuss.. only wet look see his enjoyable expression.

What is Cradle Cap?
http://www.babycenter.com/0_cradle-cap_80.bc

Cradle cap is very common. If your baby's scalp has flaky, dry skin that looks like dandruff, or even thick, oily, yellowish or brown scaling or crusting patches, it's most likely cradle cap.
Cradle cap isn't cute, but it's harmless. Most often it shows up in the first few months of life, and it usually clears up on its own in about six to 12 months — although some babies have it for several years.

You might notice the same condition around your baby's ears or eyebrows, or even in his armpits and other creases. When it's not on his scalp, it's called seborrheic dermatitis.

What causes cradle cap?
Some experts believe that the hormones a baby receives from his mother at the end of pregnancy overstimulate the baby's seborrheic (oil-producing) glands, resulting in cradle cap. But there's no consensus on the cause.

What we do know is that cradle cap isn't caused by poor hygiene or allergies. It's not contagious, and it probably doesn't bother your baby at all, although if it gets severe it might itch.

Baby is recovering... Yeah...

Today is the 3rd day since baby caught the flu bug... His fever is totally gone, now he is still coughing slightly with phlegm... Congested nose is also cleared... Yeah... That's the wonder of Breastmilk...

For the past 2 days, baby has been taking the medications from Dr Ivan..
DHAMOL - For his fever, which mummy has stopped giving him since his fever has subsided.
PROSPAN- For his cough
RHINATHIOL - for his phlegm
STERIMAR - Nasal spray for his congested nose.

Noticed that, since baby started these medication, he drinks lesser milk from usual 120ml per feeding, down to 50-60ml every 2.5hrs interval....

Since today is the 3rd day, mummy decided to stop his western medication and turns into chinese herb from Eu Yan Sang, not too sure if is coincide or not, after taking his 1st dosage this morning, baby's milk intake shoot back to 110ml... YEAH!!!!.... hopefully this will help him to clear his phlegm as well...

A little add on: Mummy always believe that Chinese herb is more effective than the western medic.. whenever baobei is down with flu, mummy would rather give her this herb then to give her drowsy medication.

My Darlings are growing & growing....

Today baobei came home to tell us her school weigh her, and she is now 18kg!!! also we have noticed that she has grown so much taller for the past 3 months...

Just so nice, baby also got his weight measurement from the GP today... HE is now 5.1kg at 12wks, thanks to the wonder of Breastmilk...

Baby has caught the flu bug from mummy & baobei

Mummy & Baobei are down with flu bug since Good Friday, both have fever, flu & cough with bad sore throat... We both also have lost our appetite as just even swallow our own saliva irritates our throat...

Just when we are about to recover, baby caught the same flu bug. He first started with cough, and slight congested nose over the last weekend. We still proceed with our activities then.

Popo touched his forehead and told mummy it seems like he is having fever. Mummy quickly took his temperature.. Gosh, is 38.1degree celcius.. Quickly call up our family doctor as it is near lunch hour, to ask him to wait for us while mummy get changed and dial for cab.

By time we reached the clinic, baby temperature shot up to 38.6 D.celcius. He is still very alert and still goo-gooing just that he is a little cranky.

Dr Ivan checked on his lungs, it is cleared no inflammation.. and got the medic prescribtion, as baby is only 2mths plus old. thr are limitation on the types of medics.. Also he has checked his weight, he is now 5.1kg!!!... is equal to a small sack of rice.

Baby, get well soon!!!.. mummy miss you ang-goo...

Princess Cinderella Kylie

Happen to be we were shopping at Robinson Orchard last weekend and then there were having a Disney Princess Makeover promotion. In order to participate, we need to purchase $50 worth of Disney Princess merchandise to get this free makeover.

Being a Princess is every girl's dream. Moreover, baobei is so into Princess now... We bought her few sets of Princess Clothings just nice with total amount close to $55,.. And she got her dream comes true.

First there is a stylist doing her hair, what they did is to use clipper to clip her hair... Then there is also a makeup artist to do a light make up for her.. (Eye lash clipping, mascara, foundation, blusher & lip gloss)...

Also, daddy has enrolled her to a Model Workshop organised by Impact Models.. In the workshop, they will teach the kids on how to catwalk, pose for photos, etc... Looking forward to that.

Baobei's Glasses

We have brought baobei to make the glasses and is ready for collection.

Mummy didn't post these pix on FB as she knows baobei is already unhappy on the facts that she has to put on glasses and patch her eye daily... And don't wish to make this too known over the web.

Well, she still has to accept it... Frankly speaking, this glasses do suit her and give her a new look.

Can you differentiate???

This is one of the jumpsuit which mummy has bought for baobei and now baby is ready to wear it.. gosh after putting on to baby.. i see the image of baobei.. only difference, the hair & the eye...

Disney on Ice @ SG Indoor Stadium

This is our 1st time bringing baobei to watch Disney on Ice. We got our tickets thru Jiuma whom help us to get the corporate tickets.. The seating arrangement is also very good, just about 7rows away from the stage and we only pay like $30 plus per tix...

But because baobei has done the eye dilation earlier on, the camera flash, the lightings, etc kinda irritate her eye.. If u realise, all her photos, she didn't look into the camera..

This yr the theme is about Incredibles.. The show is not very fantastic, quite lengthy.. And also there is 1 part where there are "ghost" appearance where is quite scary for the kids thou..
